Automatic Device Provisioning

Skip manual pairing by creating pre-configured OS images that automatically join specific fleets.

What is Auto-Provisioning?

Auto-provisioning creates customized Admiral Base OS images that:

  • Automatically join a designated fleet on first boot
  • Skip the manual pairing token step
  • Receive fleet configuration immediately
  • Connect to pre-configured Wi-Fi networks

Perfect for:

  • Mass deployments of identical devices
  • Field technician installations
  • Manufacturing integration
  • Rapid device replacement

Creating a Provisioning Profile

  1. Go to your Fleet in the Admiral Dashboard
  2. Click the Provisioning Profiles tab
  3. Click New Profile
  4. Configure the profile:
    • Profile name: Descriptive identifier (e.g., "Retail-East-Coast-2024")
    • Auto-assign configuration: Select the configuration to deploy
    • Wi-Fi networks: Pre-configure network credentials
  5. Click Generate Profile

Admiral generates a unique download link for your customized OS image.

Downloading the Custom Image

  1. Copy the generated download link
  2. Download the customized image (valid for 30 days)
  3. The image is identical to the standard Admiral Base OS, but includes:
    • Fleet assignment credentials
    • Configuration settings
    • Wi-Fi network credentials

Deploying Provisioned Devices

  1. Flash the custom image to your devices (same process as standard installation)
  2. Boot the device
  3. That's it! The device automatically:
    • Joins the designated fleet
    • Pulls the assigned configuration
    • Connects to configured Wi-Fi networks
    • Starts the workload container

No manual pairing required!

Use Cases

Mass Retail Deployment

Deploy 100 digital signage displays:

  1. Create provisioning profile for "Retail-Signage" fleet
  2. Flash 100 USB drives with the custom image
  3. Ship to stores with simple instructions: "Plug in and power on"
  4. Devices automatically configure themselves

Field Technician Installations

Equip technicians with pre-configured USB drives:

  • No need to access the Admiral dashboard on-site
  • No manual token entry
  • Consistent configuration across all installations

Manufacturing Integration

Integrate Admiral provisioning into your manufacturing process:

  • Flash devices during production
  • Devices arrive at customer sites ready to use
  • Zero-touch deployment

Managing Provisioning Profiles

Viewing Active Profiles

See all provisioning profiles for a fleet:

  • Profile name
  • Creation date
  • Number of devices provisioned
  • Download link status

Revoking Profiles

Revoke a provisioning profile to prevent new devices from using it:

  1. Go to Provisioning Profiles
  2. Select the profile
  3. Click Revoke
  4. Existing devices remain unaffected

When to revoke:

  • Profile credentials may be compromised
  • Deployment phase completed
  • Changing fleet configuration

Profile Expiration

Download links expire after 30 days for security. Generate a new profile if needed.

Security Considerations

  • Unique credentials: Each profile has unique credentials
  • Fleet-specific: Profiles only grant access to the designated fleet
  • Revocable: Instantly revoke compromised profiles
  • Audit trail: Track which devices joined via which profile
